ABOUT DAVID
Like many of the greatest talents, designer David Martorell is self-taught. And even so, he is quick to point out that it is his passion for beauty and for quality, and not for fashion, that drives his work. Though French by birth, David's family comes from Catalan, the corner of northeast Spain that has produced such visionaries as the painter Juan Gris, and the architect Antoni Gaudi -- both of whom David cites as inspirations.
His individualized approach to made-to-measure reflects his conviction that it is the woman who makes the clothes stand out, and not vice versa. Believing that having a chance to get to know the client is as essential as taking her measurements, David welcomes you to his atelier-showroom in Paris’ ninth arrondissement.
David engages the same Parisian workshops that for decades have produced the French couture collections. This formula is a perfect fit whether you are new to couture (and perhaps intimidated by the prospect, or the cost, of such a venture) or a veteran couture client who would prefer not to wear a label or a “look.” More on how to order.
Regardless, the result is the same: a service that is as elegant, discreet, and personal as the garments themselves.
Arriving in Paris some twenty years ago to work as a costume designer, David made his entry into the world of fashion as an assistant to designers Franck Stevenson and Anthony Yong. He then worked as a freelance stylist with Promostyl before becoming artistic director for a ready-to-wear leather line, Homme et Femme. In 1995, David presented his first women’s ready-to-wear collection.
Word quickly spread about his work -- superbly cut, perfect in its details, and faultless in its sensibility. And although David has over the years continued to exhibit this trademark refinement, and genius for innovative cutting, his bridal and evening gowns in particular have given him a chance to show off his poetic side.
As David says, “My clients love the feeling of confidence, of femininity, of personal style that comes through. And of course they love knowing that they won’t be seated at a dinner party next to a woman wearing the same dress!”
You will also appreciate knowing that this made-to-measure, personalized experience is only a phone call away.
